History Speakers: Since we got back from the Columbus Museum of Art, I've been looking through Frances Pohl's book In the Eye of the Storm. I find that what she's written about the works has changed and greatly expanded my view of the paintings we saw this past Saturday. Any thoughts?
Eye of the Storm definitely does an effective job at placing the works of the Schiller collection into historical context. I think this is essential if teachers are going to use the collection in their classrooms. In some cases, the meaning of the paintings are readily apparent; others need the context to help students draw meaning and relate the work of art to history.
